Already known for being a gifted playmaker, Sidney Crosby can add humanitarian to his list of accomplishments.

Though he’s a proud Canadian citizen who has represented his nation on numerous occasions, Crosby loves America’s veterans. So much so, that he gave away the new car he received after being named MVP of last season’s NHL All-Star Game.

Army Spc. Madeline Malizio was shocked to learn Crosby donated a Honda Passport to her.

“Sidney Crosby got me a car!” Malizio said in a Pittsburgh Penguins news release. “It’s been the best day ever. I can’t even put into words how grateful I am, and how blessed I feel for what he’s done today.”

Malizio was one of 10 veterans that Crosby’s Penguins hosted for practice and a home game. At the team’s practice facility, Crosby met with Malizio where he opened a garage door and surprised her with the gift.

As a single mom who uses public transportation and Ubers to get around, Malizio was overwhelmed with tears of joy.

“He was telling me how he heard about my story and he wanted to do something to help my situation,” Malizio told the Penguins. “I was confused. I wasn’t sure what he could be talking about. He puts the garage up and it’s this car. I felt weak in my knees. I felt speechless. I don’t really think there is a word to describe how you feel in that moment.”
