A Loving Family Helps Kids Find Happiness
Family means different things to different people.
But there can be no escaping the fact that we’re not born into life alone. From the very moment of our birth, God placed others in our lives for a reason.
We are born to an entity, a group of persons united by marriage, blood, or adoption.
And this unit has a very important role to play. It’s where children find happiness and learn to love in their lives – qualities that will dictate how they behave as adults.
We can help our children in a variety of ways.
Love generously
Sounds simple, doesn’t it? Yet often it’s difficult. The best advice is to give of ourselves – also known as sacrificing.
No matter how often we unconsciously end phone calls with “I love you,” you can’t love someone unless you make a sacrifice. That means you might give up your time, money, food, or comfort – all for another.
America needs more parents who selflessly love their children and put them first.
Love without limits
Parents with young children are known to be exhausted because it’s hard work: diapering, laundry, cooking, cleaning.
That kind of nonstop drudgery can take a toll on anyone. The problem is we’ve focused so much on those duties that we’ve forgotten the child, who wants to be with us far more than another Netflix movie.
God’s love has no limits, and we’re called to do the same. Those chores are important, but kids come first.
Raise them to have values
Kids shouldn’t walk around doing whatever they want with no regard for others.
It’s best to uphold a standard where they care about themselves and what others think of them.
That will translate into children who have morals and know the difference between right and wrong – and make those decisions for the sake of others, not themselves.
Pray together
When we pray, we glorify and bless God. It’s essentially our way of saying thanks, because all that we have comes from Him.
Prayer is a way of communicating with the very reason for our existence. The best part is, there’s no right or wrong way to do it.
As the saying goes, “the family that prays together stays together.”
Be an example of joy
Imagine being able to communicate exciting news to a friend or loved one. We love doing that because we want to share our joy.
We want to see that person feel happy and good. We can do that all the time by living lives filled with joy.
It’s far more than a feeling – it’s a way of life.
