101-Year-Old WWII Grandfather Commissions Grandson at Air Force Graduation
When the 61st graduating class of the Air Force Academy was commissioned yesterday in Colorado, few moments were as special as the one witnessed by Kloc family.
Joseph Kloc was commissioned by his grandfather, Walter – a 101-year-old World War II Air Force pilot. The elder Kloc traveled all the way from Amherst, New York – a suburb of Buffalo – for the extraordinary moment.
Walter was raised in Michigan after the war and later worked for General Motors, according to WGRZ-TV.
“Absolutely thrilled and excited,” said Walter’s wife, Virginia, to WGRZ-TV.
Both Walter and Joseph received a standing ovation, and the Air Force Academy’s communications team shared that “everyone in the room was gifted with a memory they’ll never forget.”
Courtney Weeth was also there and confirmed via Facebook that it was an exceptional occurrence.
“There wasn’t a dry eye in the room, he was amazing,” she wrote.
The Air Force Academy’s graduation ceremony takes place today as cadets receive their diplomas and official commission as second lieutenants.
